
Pilates Body Shop was founded in 2001 by Robyn Alvarez , a highly qualified instructor with over 20 years experience in the Pilates Industry. Robyn was a Fitness Leader at the Univerity of NSW Gym prior when she attended her first Pilates matwork class and fell in love with the method. “I knew this had to be shared because of the way I felt after each class-invigorated, taller and excited that I found a workout that was completely different to anything I had ever experienced.”Gaining her first qualification in 2001 Robyn has continued her ongoing study in the knowledge of anatomy, physiology and the Pilates method to create an environment of quality instruction . Robyn has also worked with leading physiotherapists to help clients regain their health and injury rehab.

Instructor-Karen Beattie
Prior to starting Pilates, Karen worked as a TAFE and community college vocational teacher for many years after having completed a Diploma of Teaching (Technical) at Sydney Teachers College. Following this Karen completed a Diploma of Drama (Ensemble Acting Studios) and became a registered Fitness Leader.
After sustaining a skiing injury whilst living in London in the late 80s, Karen found Pilates matwork classes which aided in her injury recovery. Soon after returning to Australia in 1992 Karen undertook a Pilates teacher training apprenticeship with the late Megan Williams(otherwise known as “Alice from the Sullivans”).
In 1995 she completed her Master’s in Dance/Choreography (UWS) Nepean and in 1998 undertook the Body Arts & Science International (BASI) training with international master trainer Rael Isacowitz. Her expertise in Pilates that has been formed by over 20 years of teaching the Pilates Method to a wide range of clientele, from acute rehabilitation through to advanced, sports specific and performing artists programming.
Karen is a Trainer Level 1 Practitioner with the Pilates Alliance Australasia (PAA)was one of the founding committee members of the Pilates Alliance Australasia. She also consulted on Pilates course accreditation and implementation. This resulted in Pilates International Training Centre (PITC) becoming the first government approved Pilates training organisation in Australia
From her years as a professional creative movement educator, Karen’s Pilates teaching style is influenced by Laban Movement Analysis (LMA), as well as the many aspects of Yoga, breath work and somatic movement. She is a hands-on compassionate practitioner and enjoys working with a broad spectrum of clients using Pilates to help them facilitate positive changes in their well-being.
